| 1 | cup | flour, all-purpose | well sifted |
| 1 1/2 | teaspoons | baking powder | |
| 1/2 | teaspoon | salt | |
| 1 | tablespoon | vegetable shortening | |
| 1/2 | cup | milk |
Sift flour with baking powder and salt.
Cut in shortening until mixture is of corn meal consistency.
Add milk; mix lightly until soft dough is formed.
Drop from teaspoon into boiling stew.
Cover tightly; cook without removing cover for 12 minutes.
